Francis Wong plays “Ondokusan”

Francis Wong shares a violin performance of "Ondokusan" for the 2021 Virtual Obon at the Buddhist Church of San Francisco. Francis Wong is an award winning jazz saxophonist, composer, community organizer, founder of Asian ImprovArts and a college professor among many accomplishments. He and his family are active at the Buddhist Church of San Francisco. Francis brought his musical abilities to the temple youth during Summer Dharma School and often performs at BCSF events including Bon Odori. Temple favorites are his renditions of Akatombo, Ondokusan, and Tanko Bushi.


Jiten Daiko is a performance taiko group that performs annually at the BCSF Bon Odori, bringing their energy and enthusiasm to our festivities. Jiten Daiko can be found at other events in the Bay Area, is involved with the youth at the temple, leading a youth taiko group, as well as the wider community. They are affiliated with the Buddhist Church of San Francisco.

Minister's Assistant Leo J. Sensei shares a "dharma chat" on Obon and connections for the 2021 Virtual Obon at the Buddhist Church of San Francisco. Leo J. Sensei is a Minister's Assistant at the Buddhist Church of San Francisco. He leads our Mindful Meditation sessions on Wednesday evenings, via Zoom.

 

Minister's Assistant Rev. Elaine Donlin shares a "dharma chat" on the meaning of Obon and her favorite parts of Obon at BCSF. Elaine Sensei is a Tokudo-ordained Minister’s Assistant at Buddhist Church of San Francisco. She is the co-founder of BCSF’s LGBTQ+ group. She is also the former president of the Buddhist Women’s Association at the temple level, the Bay District level and the national level.
